Kathy Zimmer-
If sophistication and open-hearted goodwill could combine into a sound, what would it be? Enter Kathy Zimmer, a New York City singer/songwriter sporting a richly wistful set of pipes and speaking the language of shell-shocked wildflowers. If you’re looking in earnest for something new, this is it.
There is an essence of burnished class that exudes from Kathy’s voice—think of it in Great Gatsby terms: the money that’s in Kathy Zimmer’s voice is equal parts lost Spanish Armada treasure and rural American box social baked goods.
These two extremes are also present in the songs themselves—beautifully eloquent images fly by while the topics they describe are simple and basic; yes, you too have been there and experienced that… it’s just never before been summed up in quite this way.
Here’s a theory: Joni Mitchell is less jazz and more art song… as is Kathy Zimmer. The girl in the upstairs choir is originally from the rural Great Plains, and she sings to the world with a clear voice and a clear gaze.

Lyra Project-
What strikes the listener when hearing LYRA PROJECT are the evocative harmonies which go straight to the heart.
"...sonically blissful" "passionate and inspiring"
LYRA PROJECT is singer-songwriter duo Debra Lee and Rick Denzien, whose well-crafted songs often deal with themes of finding hope through dark times, as well as love, passion, and devotion.
Trading off on lead & harmonies, Deb and Rick's blend of vocals, piano and acoustic guitar keep the audience guessing as to who is performing what at any given moment.

Sally Spring-
Born in California and raised in a small town in North Carolina, Sally literally started singing even before she could speak. The daughter of an inventor/computer trailblazer whose classmates were Hewlett and Packard, Spring grew up thinking outside the box. At 11 years old, she bought her first guitar, figured out open tunings on her own (before there were any books on this) and accompanied herself on a local television appearance a mere six weeks after she started playing. She performed in college coffee houses soon after, clubs a few years later, dropping in and out of school to travel and perform.
She traveled the country on a shoestring making friends and sharing her southern Americana folk rock music with musicians like the Byrds, Doc Watson, Mama Cass, Rev. Gary Davis, Taj Mahal, Nancy Nevins, Odetta, and among many others.
Now more than thirty years later, Sally continues to perform at festivals, universities, and clubs wowing fans throughout the U.S. and Europe still making "amazingly fresh music," as Relish Magazine observes. Her new release and fifth recording, Made Of Stars, is distributed by Super D and features not only her inimitable voice and evocative, powerful songwriting but also contributions from star studded line up including Susan Cowsill, Gurf Morlix, Peter Holsapple (dB’s, Continental drifters, REM), Caitlin Cary (Tres Chicas, Whiskeytown), Harvey Gold (Half Cleveland, Tin Huey, The Waitresses), James Mastro (Ian Hunter, Jayhawks, Bongos), Fred Smith (Television), Rich Feridun and Ted Lyons.

Mama's Black Sheep-
Mama's Black Sheep is the musical collision of singer-songwriters Ashland Miller (guitar/vocals) & Laura Cerulli (drums/vocals). With a casual demeanor onstage, these ladies will make you feel like you’ve known them and their music for years, and perhaps you have, as they are both veterans of the singer-songwriter circuit. Unmarked Highway is the debut CD for Mama's Black Sheep, who have been touring together since 2008. Effortlessly erasing boundaries between the genres of Country, Pop, R&B and Acoustic Rock music Unmarked Highway is a journey about love & life, featuring rich vocal arrangements, poignant lyrics, and an underlying groove between the musicians. Miller & Cerulli are joined on the album by violinist Helen Hausmann, saxophonist Young Devereaux, and bassists Jaime Horrigan & Robin Elder.
Before Mama's Black Sheep, Ashland toured for twelve years as part of the award-winning acoustic duo CommonbonD, releasing six CD's and performing on The Nashville Network (TNN) and in over forty American states as well as overseas. Ashland's songwriting, harmonies, and creative musical arrangements have been shared on stages with talent such as John Mayer, Ritchie Havens, Catie Curtis, and Sophie B. Hawkins. Laura previously fronted her own band, Cerulean Groove, and since 2005 she has been touring nationally and internationally as a member of SONiA & disappear fear. Laura's distinctive style has been seen on stages from The Kerrville Folk Festival (TX), to The Barns at Wolftrap (VA), to High Sierra Music Festival (CA), to The Red Roof Women's Festival (Ontario), and even 'down under' at Woodford Folk Festival (AUS).
Together Miller and Cerulli create a unique tapestry weaving songs of vibrant color and rich texture centered around a dynamic conversation between guitar and percussion. Miller's passionate voice unleashes songs that make you laugh, cry, feel inspired, and ultimately want more. Bob Steel of Baltimore Out Loud writes 'Cerulli opens her mouth and the world stands still as she wrings every drop of emotion out of the lyrics with her powerful, soaring voice, forged in the fire of the blues and tempered in the cool technique of her classical training."
If you take one guitar, a bunch of drums, two amazing voices, a dash of humor, a touch of love, and some outrageously strong musicianship, mix 'em all together, and stir well, you've got the recipe for a great time. From festivals, to clubs, to the most intimate private parties, Mama's Black Sheep is sure to deliver absolute entertainment for any crowd.

Nora Jan Struthers-
Nora Jane Struthers calls her music “Classic Americana.” The singer-songwriter’s self-titled solo bow, released June 22 on her own label, will be a revelation to roots music fans: overflowing with affecting, literate original compositions and featuring a complement of top Nashville players, it announces the debut of a major new talent.
Struthers performs her material with a voice as pretty and homespun as the vintage dresses she favors on stage. Her accompanists on the album include acclaimed singer/multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Brien, all-star fiddler Stuart Duncan, award-winning dobro player Rob Ickes, top bluegrass guitarist Bryan Sutton, banjo ace Scott Vestal, veteran bassist Dennis Crouch, and, on backing vocals, do-anything performer Shawn Lane. Truitt contributes mandolin and octave mandolin.
She comes by her affinity for traditional American styles naturally. Born in Virginia and raised in New Jersey, Struthers grew up singing with her father Alan, a veteran of a Minneapolis bluegrass band who wrote a novel about country-rock titan Gram Parsons as his doctoral thesis in American studies. “That’s how folk music and traditional music have been passed down forever – playing and singing with family members,” Struthers notes.
Struthers has already received recognition as one of the top up-and-coming voices on the Americana scene. She won the neo-traditional band competition at West Virginia’s Appalachian String Band Festival, and her song “Greenbrier County” placed as a finalist in Colorado’s Telluride Troubadour competition.
Writing in The Tennessean, esteemed critic Peter Cooper recently said, “Nora Jane Struthers has been creating quite a buzz.” Listen to her new record, and you’ll discover why.

Christie Lenée-
Christie Lenée is a visionary of cosmic proportions, embodied by magnetic waves of sound and the pulse of melodic motion. Her music manifests passion, electric energy, and soulful insight- transmitted from the heart and crafted into her compositions. Lenée’s keen sensibilities sit at the core of her expressions- articulated through masterful guitar pieces, poetic lyrics, vocals, and orchestral movements. Fresh and innovative, Christie has the ability to connect the human conscious and spirit through her music- often described as “a breath of fresh air.”
Lenée has composed a variety of innovative work- from folk and funk, to pop/rock inspired songs, to choral arrangements and classical orchestrations. Whether performing solo or with an eight-piece band, Lenée’s kinetic fingerboard work, alluring voice, and rich lyrics entrance her audience. She moves gracefully from festival stages to various venues throughout the U.S., delivering profound expressions and a vibrant live performance.
As a seasoned musician of thirteen years, Christie Lenée fuses modern classical and jazz, folk and flamenco, rhythmic slaps and bluegrass- propelling an eruption of harmonic fluidity. Her guitar techniques are ornamented with open tunings, finger tapping, and acoustic percussion- all of which are colors to animate her orchestral visions. Whether performing at Madison Square Park in New York City, the Spring Scream Music Festival in Taiwan, or local bar concert venues, Lenée lights up each stage with a radiant presence. Christie has recorded and performed with a stellar cast of musicians- some including Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones), Tim Reynolds (Dave Matthews Band), Oteil Burbridge (The Allman Brothers), and Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane).
With a dream to create global harmony through music, Lenée continues to expand upon her ever-evolving repertoire. Her song collection is vast with an assortment of live CDs (2003-2008), two home studio albums (Melody of Mood, Peace Is…), and the recent release of studio production “Set it Free” (2009). 2010 will showcase an instrumental guitar CD, plus the next full band production both contributing to a myriad of records in the years to come.

Catie Curtis-
Catie Curtis has been a fan favorite on the acoustic music scene for a number of years now. Her well-deserved reputation as one of our very best singer/songwriters has followed her through nine critically-acclaimed recordings. With her tenth and newest project, Hello Stranger, released in August 2009, she gifts her loyal fan base and entices new listeners with a recording that captures some of the magic of her live performances. With the help of her Nashville-based record label, Compass Records, she selected a few of Nashville's best musicians to make an album featuring fiddle, mandolin and banjo as well as acoustic guitar.
Catie Curtis and her producer, Garry West, put a fresh spin on some of Curtis's best-loved songs as well as several handpicked classics. The supporting musicians, Alison Brown and Stuart Duncan, along with Gary Marinelli (acoustic guitars, mandolin and resophonic guitar), Kenny Malone (drums and percussion) and Todd Phillips (acoustic bass) deliver these tunes with a pop, sizzle and shine. But most of all, the music is fun to listen to again and again. Country meets Catie in style!
Curtis has created a dedicated following that has grown steadily over the course of her 15-year career. With her live shows, film and tv placements, the 2006 International Songwriting Competition Grand Prize, and now the Hello Stranger string-band project, Curtis has proven that she's the real deal: a musician with the kind of raw talent and artistic maturity that makes her a force to be reckoned with, albeit a sweet force.

Patty Blee-
If you can imagine Sheryl Crow meeting Bonnie Raitt in a corner bar as they kick back a few cold ones with Lucinda, then you'll have no problem envisioning PATTY BLEE pulling up a stool and fitting right in. Her husky voice, confessional songs and rootsy sound have earned her numerous comparisons to such artists. Displaying a distinctive guitar style full of bass lines and grooves, Patty intertwines memorable melodies into mid and uptempo songs of love and longing. A wide range of influences are evident in her musical pallet-- blues, folk, celtic, country, and rock.
This year she celebrates the release of her new EP, "FROM THE INSIDE", 6 tracks of pure heart and soul, memorably solidified by a strong and unmistakable voice surrounded by some of the finest americana musicians around. This release is a refreshing look at a genre that increasingly knows no bounds, inspired by her travels from coast to coast and heart to heart.

Sisters 3 -
Once upon a time...
The Sisters 3 have been singing together since they were small children. They debuted their first song "Living in a Dreamworld" live from their bedroom closet at ages 5, 7 and 10. The ambitious project included a full repertoire, intermission snacks, backstage passes and autographs after the show. At first, youngest sister Beatrice was deemed the groups interpretive dancer as Anna and Cassandra had declared that at 5, her voice had "not yet developed". Clearly, these were matters of utmost seriousness. In the beginning the songs were mused from hours of lulling younger siblings to sleep. Years passed and their passion for writing and performing flourished. Together the sisters discovered William Butler Yeats, Edger Allen Poe, Shakespeare, their father's rhythm and blues record collection and acting. Homeschooling gave them all the time in the world to write and do improv to their hearts content. They even made recordings of our their demos, which exist somewhere in the rubble of a garage filled with 8 children's worth of past junk. Anna got a guitar, pursued a solo career and released her first album (Elixir for the Human Heart) and Beatrice attended art school, while Cas moved out and continued writing and singing with other local artists.
And then, together once again, they recorded their long awaited debut album, Star Spangled.

Suzie Brown -
Suzie Brown might be a common name, but there’s nothing common about this rising talent. Having started writing songs in June 2008, Brown has already taken the circuit in and around Philadelphia by storm, selling out popular area music venues such as the Tin Angel, and opening for the likes of Livingston Taylor and Lyle Lovett. While media outlets have seized on her unusual bio — Brown is a practicing cardiologist who has set aside a promising research career to focus on music — audiences and promoters have focused on Brown’s engaging performances and her intimate songs. The easy familiarity of her melodies harkens back to Carole King’s folk-pop creations, while the yearning sweetness in her voice recalls the down-home intimacy of Patty Griffin. Brown’s songwriting is remarkably mature, combining subtle progressions with memorable turns of phrase, in the best tradition of Nashville-style songwriting. This summer, Brown has reached new audiences with successful shows at Bethlehem Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA, Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, and Club Passim and Johnny D’s in Boston. She will continue touring this fall in support of her recently completed EP, Side Streets, produced by Ross Bellenoit at Turtle Studios in Philadelphia.

Andrea Paquin -
Born and raised in the state of New Hampshire, Andrea has been playing music since she was 15 years old. A self tought musician, she now performs and plays her original music and lyrics all over the Northeast. She has shared the stage with the likes of Anne Heaton, Edie Carey and Zoe Lewis. "I fell lucky to have been about to listen to these artist's stories through their songs and sicussion behind the stage. I have been given great insight from many of them and I am thankful."
Andrea resently released her six song EP, "It's What You Choose To See." "On Listen, the folk singer glides through an array of intimate, poppy anthems with breezy sensibility. Taking influences from alternative artists Indigo Girls and Kate Bush, Paquin's simple fold arrangements would be at home with the Lilith Fair generation of musicans", writes the Neortheast Performer.

Teresa Storch -
A nationally touring performer for the past four years, Boston-based singer/songwriter Teresa Storch is constantly moving. Her music has been described as a "bounding folk rock sound...mesmerizing vocal riffs" by Boston's Metronome Magazine and "Vega/Merchant-esque vocals...funky guitar work... fabulously catchy folk-genre'd tunes" by Boston Girl Guide. Her first release 'Muscle Memory' and live shows are gathering her national acclaim.
Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, it wasn’t until attending college in Colorado that it struck Teresa she wanted to write and perform her own music. Drawn to the folk music scene of Boston, she traversed the country in 1999 to settle in the Northeast. With an authentic desire to connect through music (at 13 she wrote of longing "to move people" through performing), "Moving" is a true description of what she brings to a stage. Writing to remind us (and herself) of what's real and really matters, her rich, engaging voice provides a satisfaction and a sense of home, plus a peek into the struggles of love, life and dreams. Combined with intense, percussive acoustic guitar, she accomplishes well what she set out to do at 13.
Her first CD “Muscle Memory” fuses her desire to move the listener with the rhythm section of Phil Antoniades (drums) and Jeff St. Pierre (bass), typically seen with Todd Thibaud and Barbara Kessler, creating a full sound most often compared to Jonatha Brooke or Natalie Merchant. Her second release "'Live' For Now" showcases the power of her live solo acoustic show. She's currently working on her third with Rob Ignazio at Sherwood Forest studios and Ben Wisch (producer for Marc Cohen, David Wilcox, and Jonatha Brooke).

Prima Donna -
Prima Donna is a female fronted alternative pop-rock band from the Philadelphia area. The band features the impressive song writing/guitar playing of twin sisters Gina and Tina Cieri and the distinctive, sultry vocals of lead singer Debbie Kernan. Backed by the solid, driving rhythm section of Steve Wood on bass and David Wiesinger on drums.
Filling a void in today's music, Prima Donna is a band of substance. Derived from pure emotion, the music offers something old and something new. Old as in old school, the song comes first, everything is built around the song. New, as in it has a modern, edgy rock sound combined with hook oriented pop that is different enough to be called alternative. But this band doesn't wear their influences on their sleeves and these days, that's a good thing, a stand out from the rest.
The band boldly made their entry onto the indie music scene in 2003 with their first full length CD, "Not Having Fun." The CD has received rave reviews and has been played by over 200 college radio stations across the country charting in the top 10 on many including, WIIT, (Chicago, IL), and KAOS, (Olympia, WA). It's also receiving internet radio airplay and commercial radio airplay on WSTW in Delaware. Prima Donna continues to develop a reputation as an outstanding live act. With well thought out arrangements and intense presentations, their shows are always exciting. The band has captivated audiences playing notable venues including: the World Cafe Live, the North Star Bar, Puck and the Khyber in Philadelphia, Kenny's Castaways and the Baggott Inn in New York. The band has also performed at the International Pop Overthrow Festivals in Philadelphia and New York and the Dewey Beach Music Festival in Delaware.

Talisman-
Talisman is a group of 4 talented musicians and friends who began playing original music and cover songs together at popular Philly-area venues nearly 15 years ago.
In 1996, after relocating to Philadelphia, Talisman principal songwriter & singer C met lead guitarist Jim Nichols in the first incarnation of Talisman. Clever combinations of acoustic & electric guitars, mixed with poignant, relatable lyrics and great melodies that stick in your head, created a great rock sound. After several years Talisman decided to take a break that turned into an 11 year stretch. In the summer of 2009, Nichols and C realigned the band with the addition of current drummer Dan McCoach and bass player Mike Kurman.

Their debut album, Wild Things was released in October 2008 and a mid-west tour began in March 2009, where they entertained colleges such as Shippensburg University, Elizabethtown College, West Virginia University, and Manchester College, IN. Lili Anel -
Take the soulfulness of Bill Withers, the power and range of Anita Baker, the elegance of Sade, the rhythmic sense of Richie Havens, the songwriting of Carly Simon or Joni Mitchell and roll it all together and you might get an idea of what Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Lili Anel is all about. Whether she’s performing solo or with a rhythm section, Lili Añel’s songs captivate her audience. A transplanted New Yorker, Lili considers herself a Philadelphian and with good reason; venues like Tin Angel and World Café Live! have embraced her; WXPN has featured her. Defying categorization and calling her music a hybrid of “urban/acoustic/jazz/pop” combined with a powerfully unique vocal style bringing her to the forefront. Lili continues to win over audiences with her vocal stylings, guitar playing and songs, that while often recalling her many influences (Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Janis Ian). In 2007, JazzTimes Magazine said of Lili “…her songs are consistently excellent…” Lili’s recent CD, “Every Second In Between”, produced by Grammy award winning producer, Glenn Barratt, continues to bring Lili wide acclaim, making the All About Jazz 2009 Year End Writers Choice for the 10 Best New Jazz Releases list, CityPaper’s 2009 Music Critic’s List, along with JazzTimes Magazine proclaiming ““…a cd to blow your mind at first listen…”.

Lisa Bianco -
Finding a balance between the visceral and intellectual is one of the trickiest things to pull off in music, but Lisa Bianco manages to do just that. Her songs, evocative and inventive, straddle the line between punk rock passion and singer/songwriter introspection to create something uniquely her own. On her new album, Post-Data, Bianco takes on the new and constantly evolving relationship between people and a data-saturated world, searching for the personal connection that breathes life into humanity...and music.
A performer emerging from New York City's underground scene, Bianco has earned laudatory notices from publications such as CMJ ("Distinctive NYC underground songstress"), the Village Voice ("galvanizing") and East Coast Rocker ("Bianco is spreading a unique sound throughout the New York underground. An interesting blend of alternative, guitar rock, and pure punk aggression has led to a very distinct calling"). That praise has come in the wake of her electric live performances - shows that erase the distance between artist and audience. Lisa says, "I play and tour because it provides a sense of purpose. I often feel like a messenger. When I'm on stage, I feel so alive, and I work to convey that to everyone."

Laura Cheadle -
Don't be fooled by her popstar looks. At a time when the music industry seems to churn out one identical female artist after the other, this young singer-songwriter breaks the mold. Laura Cheadle has got the funk.
This young artist writes about love, lust, and everything in-between. From beneath her graceful lyrics and sensual sound emerges Laura's soul, which enraptures her listeners as she effortlessly commands their attention. She calls herself a "funky white girl who's got soul." However, Laura sells her self short with this description, as she blends many genres both within and among her songs. Laura creates her own unique style of song-writing by giving rock/pop a soulful twist with a splash of blues.

There are traces of Orchestra for the Moon in her latest offering, elements that helped shape Jenn's sound into what it has become. Producer/pianist Jonathan Goldsmith (Bruce Cockburn) leads a heart-on-sleeve band through Echoes: Kinley Dowling on violin, David Christensen on bass clarinet, Sean MacGillivray on bass, Gary Craig on drums/percussion, and Jenn herself on guitar. These are all sincere songs captured in the moment, on tape. Echoes was recorded and mixed with a fully analogue process at Puck's Farm.
Without the songs being old or feeling old, Echoes' analog heart reflects the art and the heart of Jenn herself, inciting a familiarity that connects the listener with the roots of music.

Kate Klim -
With roots in Palatine, Illinois and Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Kate was raised on a steady diet of Carole King , Paul Simon, Billy Joel and John Lennon. Later on, her influences grew to include Patty Griffin, Jonatha Brooke, Chris Trapper and Garrison Starr.
Kate's musical success in her hometown led her to Berklee College of Music in Boston. It was here that Kate worked on her skills as a writer and performer. She can often be found on the stages of Club Passim, the Tin Angel, Tupelo Music Hall and other notable listening rooms. Recent accomplishments include opening slots for Shawn Colvin, Richard Shindell, Ollabelle and a performance at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory as part of the Philly Music Awards. After winning a
coveted spot at the 2004 Mid-Atlantic NACA conference, Kate entered the college market, which included the receipt of a special “emerging artist” award fron the prestigious Cornell University. Summer of 2005 included an honorable mention in the Mountain Stage Newsong Contest, and 2006 brought her to the Finals for Mountain Stage as well as the "Silver" Award for Best Folk Song in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. 2007 found Kate as a Kerrville Newfolk Finalist, and in 2008 she took 3rd overall in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (of over 1000 entrants).
In 2006, Kate collaborated with celebrated New England producer, Crit Harmon (Martin Sexton, Lori McKenna, Meg Hutchinson) to record her first fully-produced CD. Several songs have already won awards, and the album was released in January, 2007 to a sold out crowd in Cambridge, MA. In late summer of '07, Kate returned to her hometown of Philadelphia, PA, to pursue music full time, moving once more to Nashville in summer 2009.
